THE ATTWATER

The recently opened Attwater Hotel in Newport, Rhode Island.

I love Newport, Rhode Island. It's got so much going for it. First, its an under 4 hour drive from NYC, so it makes an excellent weekend getaway. It's got charm, beautiful temperatures, the beaches, the cliffwalk, mansions, quaint shops, restaurants and more. We basically drive to Newport every year (didn't make it this one) and sometimes we get some friends to tag along.  The more the merrier, right?

The one thing that seemed lacking was just the right kind of accommodation. I understand and appreciate the charm of most New England hotels and B&B's, but I sometimes found them a tad too old fashioned for me. Listening to myself, I must sound like a snob, but the heart wants what the heart wants.... and my heart likes modern/contemporary-ish and if its going to be traditional, it still has to have some kick to it.
Long story short, as I was flipping through Jetsetter as I usually do when I get itchy feet, I realized a new spot opened in Newport just this summer and I promptly proceeded to book a reservation for this long Columbus weekend. Thankfully, I snapped back to reality and remembered that I had already signed up for a ton of things this weekend. Darn.

Table looks like West Elm parsons, Rope lamp must be West Elm as well.
Tripod Floor lamp can be found here.

Coffee Table appears to be CB2's smart round table.

Anyways, I may not make it to The Attwater till next year but I sure do love the job done by interior designer Rachel Reider. Its giving me kind of a Jonathan Adler/Kelly Wearstler super graphic, metallic accents, bold colors, fun not stuffy vibe. Just what I love. It's like this place was tailor made for me. If you don't mind getting there while its still a tad chilly, the Jetsetter deal has rooms for as little as $115/night through the end of March.
