EAT ISTANBUL

Day 2’s itinerary in Istanbul was about one thing mostly: FOOD.  Food tour’s have become our favorite thing to do since our very first food tour in Dubai and now it has become an almost necessary part of every trip. You learn so much about a culture from the food they eat, the way it’s prepared, how it’s served and how it’s eaten. There’s so many great food tour options in Istanbul, we chose Culinary Backstreets specifically for their 2 continents tour.

We started the day on the rooftop of the Witt Hotel Istanbul taking in the sights.

The food tour meeting point was a short 6minute ride on the tram from the hotel, right next to the Galata bridge.

We had been warned that there would be a ton of eating and from past experience we knew we needed completely empty stomachs to truly enjoy the day. Our first meal was a Simit; what I could reference as the Turkish version of the New York bagel, the ultimate commuter’s breakfast.

With Simit in hand we walked past a neighborhood that specialized in hardware and right behind a hidden alley, was a courtyard where we were served Turkish tea.  Beautiful Amber tea served in a glass and made my a true tea connoisseur, an older gentleman who made tea for the area.

After breakfast began a true fun marathon across town, from delis on the European side, to a boat ride that took us across the Bosphorus to the Asian side of turkey. There we walked around markets tasting everything from pickled juice, cow intestines, breads, borek, nuts and more.
