MY TRAVEL BUCKET LIST

I'm always scribbling away about places I want to visit, especially right after I get my monthly issue of T&L. I decided to write it down/blog about it. The plan is, if its written down then I won't get distracted by easier, faster or cheaper travel plans. You see, I haven't been to Arizona, haven't made it to the Grand Canyon and I plan on doing that, but it just seems so accessible. I know if I wanted to, I could go tomorrow. So unfortunately, it's not on my bucket list and neither is San Fran or a host of other amazing places. For my bucket list, I'm talking about those seemingly impossible trips. The kind that require tons of vacation time, planning, money and keep getting pushed back for one reason or other. So here's 3 trips, just 3... I have a feeling I could come up with so many more than that. But for now, here's 3 trips I absolutely want to take.

GreatSouthernRail

1.  Australia by Rail: Australia is a supremely large country/continent and I want to see as much of it as possible, coast to coast, Sydney to Perth. Booking this trip would require many hours on Seat61 (excellent resource for train travel) and the GreatSouthernRail. Did I mention how supercomfy the sleeping cars look? Amtrak ain't got nothing on them. Although, I'm sure you'll have to shell out a premium for these cars. I would need a good 20days for this. I will not be rushed.

The infinity pool at Marina Bay Sands

2. Singapore: I've heard all the criticisms: it's too small, it's too much of a city, it's too expensive, there's not enough culture. I don't know why, but everytime I mention going to Singapore, people always seem to want to sell me on somewhere else: Go to Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia etc, they say. I really don't care. I fell in love with this little island like most people do, by watching it on TV. I used to have a channel called Imaginasian and they had tons of Singaporean shows (soaps, comedies, game shows, food shows). I became so fascinated with the food, culture and I know it sounds weird, so stay with me here, their accent. English is one of the official languages of Singapore...another bonus for me in an Asian country, and their accent is so deliciously similar to a generic African accent, that one day when one of their shows was on, I coulda sworn it was some Nigerian movie. I know its silly, but that refreshing similarity and their food (oh the food- I know my drool is almost uniquely image based)...I don't care if there's more glam, more culture, more anything else in other places...I'm going to Singapore, just as soon as those tickets drop a zero or something. Flight prices are no joke. If I made this trip, I would probably make a quick detour to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by train or ferry. Might as well maximize.

Mauritius

3. Mauritius: Once I read about Mauritius' vibrant cultural mix; an Indian flavor seasoned with African, Chinese, French and British elements in Lonely Planet, I was sold. Sounds like a Carribbean island dropped in the Indian Ocean, just off the coast of the African continent. Who wouldn't love a place with towns named Pamplemousses (Grapefruits)?

So, what's on your travel bucket list?  Pray Tell. I'm looking to steal some more ideas.
