I’ve got a little secret. It’s small, it’s gold, it fits in my hand and in my purse. Nope, I’m not talking about a wedding band, I’m talking about something that’s saving every single strand of my hair.

So for context. December of last year, I had to admit to myself that the damage was done. A series of interesting hairstyles, skipped haircare, some heat and a combo of poor product choices had left me hair wanting.

I knew something had to give and something had to change. The first thing I had to do, like it or not, was let go. Let go of the damaged hair, just let it go- so a haircut is what ensued.  There’s no point in going through a haircut to get rid of damaged hair if you don’t change your hair habits. A few things were going to be different in 2019. First, I would scrutinize my hair products significantly more. I would do significantly more protective styles- but I will ensure that all my protective styling will be bolstered by proper trims, conditions, treatments, etc.

I would love to say that this is where the story ends- lesson learned, happily ever after. But somehow along the way, I fell off the haircare wagon and old bad habits returned. Not sleeping on a silk scarf, not enough protective styles, over manipulation of my hair, pulling my hair around the edges too tight and the list goes on.

So by late summer, I recommitted.  I will get back to the program. And every good program begins with a regimen. Not only will I make sure to actually find the best protective styles that don’t strain on my hair, but if you’re going to have your hair in braids on locs for 4-6 weeks, the only way to properly restore moisture to that hair is to perform a proper treatment between styles. because unfortunately, even though they are intended to protect your hair, braid/loc styles limits your hair’s exposure to moisture and you can end up with dry, damaged and brittle hair.

So here I am, on my 2nd go-round with protective styling and I made sure that after my last styling came down and before this style went in, that I gave my hair a little (actually whole lotta love). I needed to make sure that any damage was taken care of before moving on.

And here’s where my little golden secret comes in. So small and yet so powerful.  Don’t underestimate it, just because it fits in the palm of my hand. I’m talking about a secret hailing from Brazil (and they would know a little something about healthy hair”), the little tube ampoule of goodness noticeably repairs extreme damage – to turn dry, brittle hair into soft, shiny, and more resilient hair in just one use. Enter: Pantene Intense Rescue Shots.
