NOW READING

Weekends are usually saved for Music but this time around we’ll switch it up just a bit. Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche, author of one of my fave books (Half of a Yellow Sun) recently released her latest novel: Americanah. She’s such a great storyteller, the characters she creates stay with you and you won’t want to put it down. There’s already been so much positive buzz for this one and I’m so happy for her continued success.

Love discovering new books more than I love discovering new music. This is a first time I've heard of this author but it appears as though she is quite talented from the reviews that I've read.

Hi everyone. I have read all of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's books and love them all. I was really excited to read Americanah and enjoyed it. Though the ending felt incomplete (to me), it is true to life I suppose.

It is a wonderful love story that isn't saccharin sweet. It manages to honestly discuss black identity as Africans living in American and the UK, interracial relationships, culture, desperation, unemployment, family obligations vs. personal interest, suicide and natural hair (it's quite prominent in the story).

I was at a Q&A session and book signing in London and what struck me about her was her frankness and unapologetically Africaness. She spoke candidly and did not shrink or filter herself to appease any possible discomfort the audience might feel. She is very witty and comfortable in her skin. I admire her 🙂

I attended a Q and A session with her a few weeks back, here in the UK. She is a really impressive and beautiful individual. I've bought the book, but I'll read it after my exams.

When I get the time, I love to find a corner and just read. These don't seem to be the type of books I read but I will def be looking out for it. I've heard of Half of Yellow Sun but never read it.
