NOW READING: The Sweetness At The Bottom Of The Pie... and I

Warning: This is not a book review.

The protagonist Flavia de Luce, is the kind of eleven year old I fancy I thought I was. Smarter than all the adults, who didn't see what I saw, heard what I heard, knew what I knew. IF ONLY. I Remember when I woke up one fine day and decided I would be an archeologist. I must have been that precocious age of about 10, I had found a book on rocks and maybe I had internalized one too many scenes from Indiana jones combined with my girl Shirley Temple in any of her roles. I felt empowered and super smart. I took that little rock book all around my neighborhood and collected rocks (more like pebbles and clumped up clay). My sweet mum indulged me and got me a magnifying glass and I so vividly remember sitting on our dining room table and going through them as if I had discovered a new element for the periodic table.

Of course, a year later, I had picked up a similar but new fascination with electronics, opening up every VCR, computer, calculator I could find. I wasn't an only child but I had many moments alone especially after my sister was shipped off ( exaggeration for emphasis) to boarding school. It was in those moments that I would dream up fantastical stories in my head or just pretend that I was Storm from my tattered X-men comic books. That was then; I laugh sometimes as I barely recognize that girl, I miss her sometimes. I don't know why kids today are in such a hurry to grow up, there's something so special about each part. That is the beauty of life, an ever changing journey, you don't quite know where its gonna take you. And my Point is? Yup, I 'm reading this book and I'm loving it cos for some reason I can't help but think back to lil' ol' 11-year old me.

Do you remember what you were like at 11? Your dreams? Hopes? Unrealistic Fantasies?

p.s.: I normally do music Fridays but my posting lately is a little all over the place. Bear with Me. Grazie.
