WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO? TELL & WIN
Uncategorized November 8, 2013
This post is actually all due to blog reader Moraa who had some excellent music suggestions for me this week. It got me thinking, what else is out there that I’m missing. So the tables are turned. I’m excited to find out what you guys are listening to and the top recommendation will win a $25 iTunes giftcard to purchase what else, but some more music. This giveaway is not by rafflecopter as I plan on reading all the answers and the winner won’t be a random selection.
In the meanwhile, check out one of Moraa’s recommendation: Bells Atlas.
So glad to have inspired this post! Always on the hunt for new music, so I can't wait to check out some of the suggestions!

thanks for the intro to Hindi Zahra
I am listening to Robert Glasper Black Radio 2
I've been listening to an a capella group called Pentatonix. They are awesome! Lots of poppy stuff and while they have no instruments, it's tough to call them "stripped down" because their sound is so full.
I love Pentatonix- especially enjoyed their cover of Lorde's royals.
Snarky Puppy's "Family Dinner – Vol. 1" EP in its entirety (it was recorded 2 minutes from my house!), particularly the track featuring Lalah Hathaway called Something.
this is some real music
Recently I've been listening to the rich, warm tones of Concha Buika. She's lovely.
U know something is great when you can feel it and get it, even when u don't understand the language
Loving Alice Smith's 'She' album at the current moment.
I can't stop listening to Moonchild (thisismoonchild.com). The lead singers vocals and the groups jazzy sounds give me life!
Some other artists include Daley, Hiatus Kaiyote, and Gwen Bunn.
I am totally obsessed by the latest volcano choirs album, especially comrade and repave. And in second i'd say jose James, trouble and third laura mvula, she.
Currently listening to Grammy Award winning artist Robert Glasper's new album; Robert Glasper Experiment: Black Radio 2.
It's absolutely perfect and features Jill Scott, Brandy Jazmine Sullivan (yes she's still making music!!)
Lalah Hathaway and Malcolm Jamal Warner (THEO!!).
This album is just as amazing as Black Radio and trust me when I tell you, you'll leave it to run, no skipping tracks guaranteed!!
I'm currently obsessed with Quadron. Listen to "Sea Salt" and "LFT"
how amazing is Quadron even featured here: http://www.addicted2etsy.com/2013/04/now-listening-quadron.html

Oroma Roxella Rukevwe
"Stay Awake" by London Grammar and "I Didn't Believe" by Flight Facilities are on repeat almost everyday for me.
both recommendations from a friend with impeccable taste so i thought these were perfect to share:
ta-ku • songs to break up to
atu • let me
you may also know of these two artists but i was introduced tot hem through afropunk:
london souls • city of lights
the skins • surf
Currently listening to Amel Larriuex's Icecream Everyday. She's not new but she's been on hiatus for awhile.
Currently listening to Avenging Wind's Dump Truck Blues…recently released on iTunes
Currently obsessed with UK-based Sam Smith. Nuanced R&B tunes; smooth, dreamy vocals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_OvashuS7Q
Not sure if you know her but This artist named Yuna, she's pretty awesome sounding! She has a cd out now called Nocturnal. Heard about her here http://thesnobette.com/g-star-raw-episodes-yuna-zarai/
love her, featured her here: http://www.addicted2etsy.com/2013/06/now-listening-yuna.html
That and This.....
Definitely in agreement with Viola Vemma re Khona, but my ultimate favourite (for now anyway…) is Nakamarra by Hiatus Kaiyote
I've been listening to a lot of NPR lately, and the other day on World Cafe, they featured Basia Bulat, a singer songwriter with kind of a folksy feel, and plays just about every instrument there is–she played four in her 20 minute or so segment!
Currently loving Kwabs (aka Kwabena Adjepong; "Last Stand" and "Wilhelm Scream" cover…amazing), Raleigh Ritchie (see: "Stay Inside", "In Too Deep", "Overdose"; fun fact: he's on HBO's Game of Thrones!), Chronixx ("Here Comes Trouble" made me a fan), Canadian DJ Kaytranada ("At All" gives me life!) and TDE newcomer SZA (see: "Teen Spirit").
Not so new, but lately I've also been listening to Liam Bailey, Jamie Woon, Robert Glasper (Black Radio 1 & 2, to be specific), Laura Mvula, Lianne La Havas, Maverick Sabre, Delilah, Mikky Ekko, Quadron, Cocaine 80s (No ID, James Fauntleroy, Common and Jhene Aiko are the perfect hip hop collective) and John Newman. I think I might have gotten a little carried away. Woops! lol
no such thing as getting carried away- love it all. listening to SZA now
Ok my favorite subject! The Irrepressibles(In This Shirt, AMAZZZINNNG), The Alabama Shakes(her voice is incredible for a 24 year old), The Neighbourhood(Female Robbery, How and A Little Death are among my faves), and of course, my all time favorite, Dirt by Depeche Mode.
Check out The Lone Bellow! Great stuff! I also agree with Mutsa, Kwabs is phenomenal!!
There're not completely new BUT, I'm so diggin Emily King, Lorde's new material & Yuna's new drop with Pharrell producing has me doing several little *shimmies*
Anything I can get my hands on my Kwabs but especially this track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHdGIiV894s. It's so addictive.
Ba mi dele by Asa. The artist is Nigerian, the vocals are in Yoruba and English. I love love love her voice on this song!!!! I probably listen 20 times a day 🙂
Currently obsessed with khona by mafikizolo!!
